Jacques Kallis will miss the second Test against England which starts at Lord's on Thursday, but will return in time for the third Test which starts at Trent Bridge on August 14.
Gerald de Kock, the South African team spokesman, broke the news. "We don't know yet when he will be rejoining us but he will be back before the third Test," he said.
At the same time it was announced that Andrew Hall, a member of South Africa's one-day party but not originally included in the Test squad, had been called up. Hall, 28 on Thursday, has been playing county cricket in England for Worcestershire.
