Mumbai piled up 340 for four wickets from 90 overs at the end of the first day of the West Zone Ranji Trophy league match against Gujarat at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai on Saturday.
Gujarat won the toss and invited the hosts to bat. Mumbai openers Wasim Jaffer and Vinayak Mane made merry in batsman-friendly conditions, piling up a 154-run opening partnership off 46.5 overs. Mane (57) was then run out by Lalit Patel.
Jaffer continued his good form with the bat, scoring 97 off 157 balls. His innings was laced with 14 boundaries and two massive sixes. He missed out on his century when he edged Hitesh Majumdar and was caught by Niraj Patel.
Vinod Kambli displayed tremendous confidence and determination scoring an unbeaten 104. His quickfire 110-ball innings, had four towering sixes and eleven hits to the fence. Kambli played an entertaining knock that had the Wankhede spectators on their feet. Skipper Sameer Dighe (34) and Kambli added an unbeaten 138-run partnership for the fifth wicket off 29.5 overs.
