Alok Kapali provided backbone to a Sylhet innings that threatened to collapse without any fight on the first day of the National Cricket League clash against Dhaka. After opting to bat, Sylhet found themselves in trouble as a number of batsmen got starts but could not go on. Only Kapali (85, 140 balls, 7 fours, 1 six), and to some extent Golam Mawla (42) made serious contributions. In fact, had it not been for a 121-run stand for the 6th wicket between the two, Sylhet might never have reached their eventual 257 for 7 from the 97 overs bowled on the first day. Tapash Baisya (35 not out) carries the fight into the second day.

Chittagong 272 for 5 (Hossain 100, Arif 79*) v Khulna
Scorecard

Faisal Hossain and Arif Ahmed ensured that Chittagong ended the first day right on top, in their match against Khulna. After opting to bat, Chittagong were in early trouble as the first two wickets fell with just three runs on the board. Even a mini recovery only took Chittagong to 85 before four wickets were down. Hossain then began the rescue act, scoring 100 (152 balls, 14 fours) at no. 5. He was ably supported by Ahmed, who remained unbeaten on 79 when the day's play ended. Hossain's 102-run association with Arif gave substance to the Chittagong innings, taking their score on to 272 for 5 at the end of the first day. Arif will have to continue the good work on the second day if Chittagong are to post a big total.

Rajshahi 190 (Mashud 86; Tariqul 4-67) lead Barisal 47 for 3 by 143 runs
Scorecard

Even Khaled Mashud's 86 at no. 7 could only take Rajshahi to a small total of 190 all out from 74.1 overs in their match against Barisal. Lead by Tariqul Islam (4-67) the bowlers had a field day at the Abdur Rab Serniabad Stadium. After a dramatic slump to 15 for 5, it was Murad Khan (47) who began the long road to recovery. A 107-run partnership for the sixth wicket stemmed the rot. Later Mashud, who was at the crease for more than three hours, struck 11 boundaries on the way to 86. When the last Rajshahi wicket fell with the score on 190, there was still time for Barisal to bat. They promptly lost three wickets, and ended the day on 47 for 3.
