Simon Katich's disrupted summer has been given a second one-day boost with his inclusion for Wednesday's VB Series match against West Indies at Adelaide Oval. Set back by illness and being dropped from the Test team, Katich will come into the side for Damien Martyn, although he is not expected to assume the opening role he filled against Pakistan at Hobart, making 38 off 48 balls.
A No. 6 berth is more likely for Katich as Australia try to snap Matthew Hayden and Andrew Symonds out of their batting woes. Darren Lehmann said Symonds, who has five ducks in his last six attempts, will probably be moved up the order. "He is in a bit of a rut, but he is a class player and he will come out of it," Lehmann was quoted as saying in the Fox Sports website. "The only way he will come out of it is to keep playing. I think he will probably bat up the order in the next couple of games. That will give him a good opportunity to bat for a long period of time."
The Australian team departed Sydney this afternoon after qualifying for the finals series with the nine-wicket win against Pakistan last night. But the chase for second place is still alive with only two points separating Pakistan and West Indies.
