Klusener on song for Dolphins
A round-up from the second day in round five of the SuperSport Series
Lance Klusener blasted a swashbuckling 102 from 83 balls to launch a stunning fightback for Dolphins against Warriors at Kingsmead. The Dolphins had been in an indifferent position at 180 for 7 in reply to the Warriors' first-innings total of 191 when Klusener blitzed the match into their favour from No 9. He lifted them to 327 by stumps, a first-innings lead of 136.
Seventeen wickets tumbled on the second day at Benoni, as the Lions and the Titans jostled towards a grandstand finish. Having been bowled out for 225 on the first day, the Titans stormed out of the blocks, striking in the first over of the day as the Lions slumped to 65 for 8. Andy Blignaut and F de Wet staged a recovery, adding 85 for the ninth wicket as the Lions scrambled to an eventual 148. By the close, however, they were right back in the game, as the Titans slipped for 141 for 7 by the close. Goolam Bodi was their best hope of a decent target, finishing unbeaten on 34 at stumps.
A coruscating display of batting from Benjamin Hector and Jacques Rudolph took Eagles to 191 for 1 on the second day. They closed just 60 behind Cape Cobras, who made 251 in their first innings. Hector and Rudolph smashed 96 runs between them as all of the top three made fifties. Ryan Bailey made 51 in an opening stand of 95 with Hector, who was unbeaten on 79 by the end of play.
