A statistical look at the fifth day's play at Kolkata

As Anil Kumble got working on Pakistan's batting on the final day, he reached some significant milestones. With Yousuf Youhana's wicket, he became only the second Indian, after Kapil Dev (99 in 29) to claim 50 wickets against Pakistan. His 7 for 63 was his 29th five-wicket haul in 94 Tests and brought him level with Shane Warne, whose 29 have come in 122 Tests. The haul was also the best by a legspinner at Eden Gardens, bettering Richie Benaud's 6 for 52 - a record that had stood for 48 seasons. He also removed Inzamam-ul-Haq for the seventh time in eight matches against Pakistan. Warne, Glenn McGrath, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan and Courtney Walsh have dismissed him five times each.

This was Pakistan's first defeat in six matches at Eden Gardens. They now have four draws, a victory and a loss to their name here. The win came six years ago, when they staged a remarkable comeback after being 26 for 6 on the first morning. And unlike then, when the game ended in an empty stadium after police baton-charged a restless crowd, this one passed off without incident.
The match aggregate of 1433 runs was the fifth-highest ever in India. Interestingly, three of the top five have taken place in the last five years.
