The three most celebrated batsmen in the world, Sachin Tendulkar, Steve Waugh and Brian Lara, will gather in India early next month to promote the sport of go-karting. The three players, all of whom endorse the Indian tyre company MRF, will launch a go-karting tournament in Chennai on July 5 and 6.
"The three cricketers will don specially designed racing gear and drive a few laps around the circuit in their go-karts," explained a press release. Go-karting, a poor relation of Formula One, is run on 800 cc engines and has become a craze across India. Many consider the sport a stepping-stone towards the big time.
Waugh will be taking time off from his preparations for the short series against Bangladesh, while Lara will jet in from the West Indies after the second Test against Sri Lanka. Tendulkar, a racing fan, was gifted a Ferrari racing car by Schumacher when they met in England last year during India's Test tour.
