Major decisions from the ACB directors' meeting

PANEL FORMED TO APPOINT COACH

A five-man panel has been formed to appoint the new Australia cricket coach, following a meeting of the Australian Cricket Board's (ACB) Directors today.

The panel, consisting of ACB Chairman Denis Rogers, Chief Executive Malcolm Speed, former Australia Test batsman Wally Edwards, Trevor Robertson of South Australia and the ACB's Operations General Manager Richard Watson, will draw up a shortlist of candidates and commence interviewing for the post as soon as possible.

The position will not be advertised and it is hoped an appointment can be made by the end of October, prior to the beginning of the domestic international season.

The vacancy was created by the recent resignation of Geoff Marsh, coach since 1996, who leaves the role at the end of the current Foxtel Australian Cricket Tour of Sri Lanka.

MARSH NAMED AS NEW SELECTOR

Geoff Marsh has been appointed as an international selector and will join the current three-man panel of Trevor Hohns (chairman), Allan Border and Andrew Hilditch.

ROGERS RE-APPOINTED AS CHAIRMAN

Board Chairman Denis Rogers has been re-appointed to the post for a further 12 months. Rogers, from Tasmania, who first became an ACB Director in 1989, has been Chairman of the Board since 1995.
