November was another busy month with both the under 19 tournament and the Westpac Pikinini Cricket League coming to an end. Mele remained undefeated in the Under 19 Championship and narrowly defeated Central School in a very close final. The competition was played at a very high standard with some great individual performances. Abbie Joel from Central School was awarded the Champion Player Award for his performance with both the bat and the ball throughout the tournament. There were also many other standout performances from other players. This was the first under 19 competition in Vanuatu and its success means that cricket in Vanuatu is looking very strong for the future. The competition will be looking to expand next year to include at least 2 more teams.
The Westpac Pikinini Cricket League finished with a very successful final day of play. Westpac provided a huge barbeque for the 100 or so kids playing in the finals. Mele Maat Primary School was the eventual winner of the under 13 category while Vila East Primary school won the 10 and under category.
Andrew Mansale spent 2 weeks at the Commonwealth Bank Cricket Academy this month and reports back from the coaches have been very positive. He is now spending time in Melbourne playing a few games and further developing his cricket.
