Reece Topley, the England and Hampshire left-arm seamer, has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the back for the fourth time in his career.
Topley, 23, will undergo further assessment on the severity of the latest injury before a timescale for his layoff is confirmed. It continues a string of injuries for him which included a broken hand during his first appearance for Hampshire last season and a shoulder problem which required surgery in January.
He had previously suffered two back stress fractures while at Essex before another one cut short his 2016 season with Hampshire.
Topley had made a return to action this season across all formats, playing two Championship matches, seven T20s and five matches in the Royal London Cup. He has made 10 ODI and six T20I appearances, the most recent of which came against South Africa in the 2016 World T20.
