More than points of concern for New Zealand

Sri Lanka now has 16 points in the World Cup, with one more game against South Africa to play. Should it win that game Sri Lanka would have assured itself of a place in the Super Six while South Africa would be out of the tournament.

South Africa, by winning, would join Sri Lanka on 16 points as possibly New Zealand and Kenya would also do.

Under that scenario, South Africa and Kenya would go through having won two games in the matches played between the four teams on the same points. That would leave the last place decided on net run rate, and with a game against Canada, New Zealand are in a position to really put the pressure on Sri Lanka who will be halfway through a day/night game when New Zealand's game finishes on Monday.

Should Bangladesh beat Kenya the matter would become largely academic as Kenya would then need to beat the West Indies to finish on 16 points.

But there are other worries for New Zealand. Lou Vincent, a likely starter in the match against Canada after sitting out the game against Bangladesh, has dislocated his left thumb and is out of action for between five to 10 days.

He suffered the injury during field practice at Benoni and a visit to a hand specialist resulted in a reduction of the dislocation.

Also injured was fast-medium bowler Kyle Mills who suffered a hamstring straing when diving full stretch to field a ball.

It will be another 24-36 hours before a clearer diagnosis can be made on the severity of the strain, according to New Zealand Cricket's medical co-ordinator Warren Frost.

The TelstraClear Black Caps management team has not called for any replacement players at this stage.
