Hampshire have formally announced that Neil Johnson, the former Zimbabwean Test star, has signed a one year contract that will bring him to the club for the 2001 season.

Jimmy Cook, at present holidaying in South Africa commented: "This is a major signing for Hampshire, given that Neil Johnson is an all-rounder with real stature in the game, as a player with no overseas commitment now that he has retired from International cricket."

"He is an aggressive competitor who bats in the top five and bowls at a good pace. He has also had experience in English County cricket playing for Leicestershire in 1997."

Johnson joins Hampshire as the club start a new era at their new Rose Bowl Ground in West End, Southampton.
