2005-06 HKCA Saturday League

The 2005-06 HKCA Saturday League saw the last full round of matches played in cold and overcast conditions on 25th February. Despite the competition being decided the previous week, there was still plenty to play for and many games went down to the wire.

At the Police Training College, the Hong Kong Under-19's team were beaten by Police by 49 runs despite good performances from Irfan and Nadeem Ahmed. Police batted first and were restricted to 167-9 from their 35 overs, with Nasir Hameed top scoring with 80 while Irfan Ahmed claimed six wickets. Irfan's brother Nadeem then scored a half-century as the Hong Kong Under-19s were dismissed for 118 in reply. Nasir Hammed completed a good double by claiming four wickets whilst Kamran Khan claimed another three.

Crusaders got the better of Witherers in a high scoring thriller at Po Kong Village Road No.1 Ground. Having chased down a big total themselves the previous week, Witherers would have been happy with their total of 271-5 from their 35 overs with Vijay Karnani, Bob Bettridge, Nick Gavin-Brown and Jeremy Glaros all making valuable contributions. But the Crusaders batsmen have had plenty of practise chasing big scores this season and they finally managed to hang tough as they surged to victory by just one wicket in a nail biting finish. For Crusaders, Marzook Mohana, Damian Kelleher and Manoj Cheruparambil all scored well while Mark Fuzes claimed four wickets for Witherers.

It was better news for Nomads who overcame Mainlanders by 16 runs in a close finish at Hong Kong Cricket Club. Nomads have the all-round talents of Luke Rewega to thank for their victory as he top scored with an undefeated 71 in their total of 184 and then claimed three wickets as Mainlanders were dismissed for 168 in reply. For Mainlanders, Zafaran Ali claimed three wickets and Asad claimed four.

There was another gripping finish at Mission Road where MCC St George's defeated CCC by one wicket. Searching for their first victory of the season, CCC were restricted to just 145-7 from 35 overs, with Mukhtar Ahmed top scoring with 43. But three wickets each to Burgess and Bailey had CCC sensing victory until Yasar steadied the ship with 46 and Maqbool held his nerves with an unbeaten 37 to see MCC St George's through to victory.

No details have been provided so far from the Tartars versus Centaurs match played at Kowloon Cricket Club.

2005-06 HKCA Sunday Cup

Millennium CC and Pakistan Association progressed through to the quarter-finals of the Sunday Cup competition after beating HKCC Wanderers and Vagabonds respectively. Conditions were again cold and overcast as the qualifying round of the 2005-06 HKCA Sunday Cup were played.

At the Hong Kong Cricket Club, Millennium scored an 8 wicket victory over HKCC Wanderers, making their first appearance in the competition after an absence of over 10 years. Batting first, the Wanderers were dismissed for 176 in 45 overs with Luke Sully hitting 41 and Fairclough scoring an unbeaten 38 while Mohammed Javed claimed four wickets for Millennium. Ahmed Dar belted an unbeaten 107 and Mukhtar Ahmed scored 52 as Millennium eased to a comfortable victory.

At Mission Road, SCC Vagabonds found their return to competition too hot to handle as they succumbed to Pakistan Association Green by 73 runs. The Pakistan Association Green team continued where they left off in the Sunday League competition as they scored a healthy 284-9 from their 49 overs with Liaquat hitting an unbeaten 119 and Jamshed Khan scoring 46 whilst Tauseef Bukhari claimed three wickets. Rahul Sambhus top scored with 61 and Mark Burns hit 51 for Vagabonds but they could only muster a total of 211 before being dismissed in the 36th over. Kamran Khan claimed four wickets for Pakistan Association Green.

Millennium and Pakistan Association Green victories earn them places in the Sunday Cup quarter-final round. For their efforts, Millennium will meet League Champions Scorpions at Mission Road while Pakistan Association Green will face Infidels at KCC.

2005-06 HKCA Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League

Neisha Pratt continued her good form in the newly renamed Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League with another century whilst her team mate Sam McIllwraith claimed six wickets.

Lamma completely dominated the match against HKCC Willow Wielders as they wrapped up a thumping victory by 149 runs. Neisha Pratt once again led the Lamma charge with her second century in as many matches as she scored 146 out of a total of 214-8. HKCC's Marge Cheung claimed five wickets as wickets tumbled in pursuit of quick runs. But the HKCC batters crumbled to the bowling of Sam McIllwraith who claimed six wickets for just sixteen runs from seven overs as HKCC were dismissed for just 65 runs.

Lamma's victory moved them to 78 points on the League table which guarantees them at least a share of the Women's League title. They'll only need to claim a single point from their remaining match against KCC to win the title outright.
