Nepal remain unbeaten while UAE thrash Maldives

Nepal remained unbeaten in the Youth Asia Cup 2003 in Karachi thanks to a 143-run defeat of Singapore. The result allowed Qatar to qualify for the semi-finals from Pool A. In the other match of the day, United Arab Emirates beat Maldives by eight wickets.

Singapore needed a victory to reach the last four, but they failed to challenge the strong Nepalese side which outclassed them at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium to finish on top of Pool A. From Pool B, Malaysia had already booked a place in the semi-finals and they will be joined by the winner of Oman vs Kuwait match who meet at the Quaid-i-Azam Park on Wednesday.

Nepal, batting first, posted a decent 202 for 8 with Yashwant Subedi top scoring with 40. He received good support from Manjeet Shreshta (38) and Shakti Prasad (28). Maxim Mok, with his medium pacers, finished as pick of Singaporean bowlers with 3 for 37. Singapore were dismissed for 59 in 45.1 overs with offspinner Ratan Kumar taking 4 for 20.

At the PCB Regional Academy, Riaz Khaliq, Owais Hameed and Leon Glen shared seven wickets between them to bundle out Maldives for 94 in 35.4 overs. UAE strolled to victory in 21 overs.
