The Australia one-day side will sport a new baggy green uniform starting this summer, marking a change from the traditional canary yellow colours. The makeover is intended to reflect the traditions of Australian cricket and will be officially unveiled this September.

Ricky Ponting, Australia's captain, was excited at the innovation, and hoped that the fans derive the same inspiration as the players in supporting the team. "The baggy green is my most prized cricketing possession -- I am thrilled at the prospect of wearing a uniform that reflects the tradition of Australian cricket," he told The Herald Sun. "I also encourage all Aussie fans to wear our national colours this summer with pride, and help support the team by creating a sea of green and gold at every match we play."

James Sutherland, Cricket Australia's chief executive, indicated that the launch would coincide with Australia's attempt to regain the Ashes, highlighting its significance in the context of Australian cricket in general.

"The forthcoming summer is going to be the biggest in Australian cricket history and it's only fitting that the tradition that embodies our national team will be reflected in the uniforms the players wear this year," he said.

Tim Jackson, marketing director of Adidas Australia, too was excited at the new look and said that the colour would match that of the traditional baggy green cap. "The fabric has been matched to the colour of an original baggy green cap to ensure that the new, innovative shirt has its roots in the traditions of Australian cricket," he said. "All players' numbers and other design elements will be printed in metallic gold to create a true green and gold uniform."
