New South Wales have retained the Milo Cup, the Australian Schoolgirls Under-17 Championship, after defeating Victoria Blue by 38 runs in the final at Caulfield Park on Friday.
The final was the culmination of a week-long competition involving eight teams, two from the host state Victoria (Blue and White), plus the remaining five states and the Australian Capital Territory.
The outcome of the final was rather closer than the first two meetings of NSW and Victoria Blue on Monday morning, which NSW won by ten wickets. The only time NSW dropped any points along the way was when they tied their encounter with Queensland.
In the final, New South Wales batted first and scored 8/133 (A Burke 40 O Thornton 25*, J Hunter 2-12 A Taylor 2-13). Victoria Blue, in reply, made 9/91 (J Hunter 34 E McIntyre K Lawson 2-5 B Daws 2-14).
The win means that New South Wales continue their domination of women's and schoolgirls interstate cricket. In January they won their eleventh consecutive Under-19 Carnival at Toowoomba, while in December the senior NSWIS Blues side defeated the Western Fury to claim their fourth consecutive Women's National Cricket League title.
