NEW ZEALAND v PAKISTAN 1988-89
At Auckland, March 11, Pakistan won by seven wickets
At Auckland, March 11, Pakistan won by seven wickets. Toss: Pakistan. All seemed set fair for New Zealand when Wright and Jones put on 94 for the first wicket and Jones and Martin Crowe added 84 for the second. When the second wicket fell, they had sixteen overs in hand, but then they succumbed, initially to the wiles of Qadir and Tauseef. Qadir took the wickets of Martin Crowe and Jones in one over, and New Zealand's last eight wickets produced only 71 runs. It took Pakistan 48.3 overs to get the runs, but they always looked like winning. Ramiz, who had passed 50 in Christchurch and Wellington, made a century off 114 balls, hitting a six and nine fours, and Imran and Salim Malik completed the task. Imran, ending the match with a six off Snedden, reached his half-century from 62 balls and Salim Malik was in even more devastating form, his 50 coming off 33 balls with nine fours. Snedden, who bowled his first four overs for 5 runs and one wicket, ended with one for 57 off 9.3 overs.
Man of the Match: Ramiz Raja.
