Turning Points

New Zealand v Scotland - #BendTheRules Moments

Turning points from the World Cup 2015, Group A, match played between New Zealand and Scotland

Trent Boult won the Man-of-the-Match award for his double-strike against Scotland  ICC

1.1 Boult to MacLeod, OUT, pitches this one on and around off as this bends back enough to crash into the front pad of MacLeod, who goes for a golden duck as he plays down the wrong line. Looked as plumb as you can get. New Zealand off to a fantastic start
CS MacLeod lbw b Boult 0 (5m 1b 0x4 0x6)

1.2 Boult to Gardiner, OUT, gropes forward to this fuller length which swings in a mile as Boult gets another, much to the delight of the University Oval. This one struck full on the front pad, and looked as good as out. After some deliberation, the umpire gives this out. Phenomenol start now as Boult is on a hat-trick. The wicket-pair pattern is happening again in this World Cup
HJW Gardiner lbw b Boult 0 (2m 1b 0x4 0x6)

4.1 Southee to Coetzer, OUT, full and straying down the pads as Coetzer picks out the short midwicket fielder, who takes it comfortably with a forward dive. Had the whole region to get this away, but finds the man instead
KJ Coetzer c Elliott b Southee 1 (20m 10b 0x4 0x6)

4.2 Southee to Mommsen, OUT, delivers another full delivery which angles in on the pads as this strikes in line, with this hitting the pad before going onto the bat. Looked good as soon as they went up for the appeal, with the umpire confirming the decision. Scotland, however, want to review. No issue with the no-ball, just a matter of this hitting the wickets with the original decision being out, and the replay shows that this indeed is clipping a good chunk of leg stump, so the Scottish captain must go
PL Mommsen lbw b Southee 0 (3m 1b 0x4 0x6)

2.4 Wardlaw to Guptill, OUT, Wardlaw gets one early for Scotland as he persists with a fuller length just outside off which invites Guptill to have a go as he looked to lift over long off, but instead offers up an edge to the keeper behind
MJ Guptill c †Cross b Wardlaw 17 (10m 14b 4x4 0x6) SR: 121.42

3.2 Taylor to McCullum, 1 run, dropped Big, big let-off here for NZ as McCullum flicks this fuller length heading down the pads straight to deep midwicket, who ends up grassing the chance. Looks like the fielder was Gardiner. McCullum survives

6.6 Wardlaw to McCullum, OUT, Wardlaw picks up a big one as McCullum has to go after offering up an edge outside his off stump to the keeper. Looks like he was trying to run that one past the slip, but was late on the shot as the ball went off the outside edge to Cross. Not greeted with a lot of enthusiasm by the University Oval crowd though
BB McCullum c †Cross b Wardlaw 15 (28m 12b 3x4 0x6)

17.5 Davey to Williamson, OUT, Kane departs from the middle under a cloud of silence as he has a wild swing at this fuller length outside of off, which he ends up getting an inside-edge which carries all the way to Cross, who has to move low to his left to complete the take. Kane was unsure whether this had carried initially, before finally being given his marching orders by the umpire
KS Williamson c †Cross b Davey 38 (60m 45b 6x4 0x6)
