NEW ZEALAND v SRI LANKA 1990-91

At Napier, January 26

At Napier, January 26. New Zealand won by five wickets. Toss: New Zealand. The Sri Lankans lost their way after being sent in on a pitch mildly helpful to the bowlers, and with recent rain having made the outfield slow. Five batsmen attained 20, but none could go on to a significant score: Senanayake was briefly competitive and later Labrooy hit 22 off 29 balls, with a six his only boundary. New Zealand's fielding was first-rate, almost unrecognisable from some of their performances in Australia at the start of the season. The home team had a simple task, and Wright made it simpler by scoring 64 from 113 balls. The tourists did themselves no service by bowling sixteen wides in 42.3 overs.
