Graham Gooch has been reappointed as England captain but only for the first half of the Ashes battle against Australia. The Essex captain will lead England for the three Texaco Trophy internationals and the first three Cornhill Tests. The selectors will then review the position. England committee chairman Ted Dexter said: "We have continued confidence in Graham's leadership but have adopted this formula to leave all options open."
