Pakistan, already two Tests down against Australia in their three-match series, are now struggling with injuries. Both Mohammad Sami and Shoaib Malik are already out of Sunday's Sydney Test, Abdul Razzaq is in hospital for observation with a mystery illness, while Inzamam-ul-Haq, their captain, has a back complaint.

Bob Woolmer, Pakistan's coach, told AFP after the match that neither Sami nor Malik would be able to available to play at the SCG: "Shoaib Malik won't play because he's got stitches in his right hand, and Mohammad Sami won't play because he's got a very badly bruised and bleeding heel, and he's been advised to rest for two weeks. Abdul Razzaq is in hospital, so he's in doubt."

Razzaq was admitted to a private hospital in Melbourne on Tuesday morning after a bout of vomiting, dizziness and breathing difficulties. He batted in Pakistan's second innings, but returned to hospital afterwards. Woolmer was not too worried: "We have 17 in the touring party and we have some very good-quality cricketers [and] maybe we can give them an opportunity."

Woolmer explained that the condition of Inzamam, who missed the second Test, had improved. "Inzamam is feeling better; that's a good thing and we have some young quick bowlers with us who I think can do a good job," he said. "I don't think we need reinforcements for the last Test, but we might change our one-day side slightly [for January's VB Series] because of the various injuries."
