Samit Patel, the England and Nottinghamshire allrounder, has extended his contract with the club until the end of 2010.
"I'm very happy at Notts and even though my previous deal didn't expire until 2009, I was keen to agree to an extension," Patel said. "It has been a good year for me and for the team and I'm confident that we will be able to challenge for honours next season."
Patel was called up to England's one-day squad against South Africa in the summer, and impressed sufficiently to be named in the squads for the Stanford series as well as India.
"Samit has taken huge strides recently and this contract rewards him for his standing in the team," said Mick Newell, Nottinghamshire's director of cricket. "He has matured as a person and a player and he has serious ambitions to play Test cricket for England."
