Cricket scrutiny panel completes its work

By Sports Correspondent

LAHORE, June 15: The scrutiny committee, formed to weed out bogus clubs from all over the country, has completed its work but was unable to proceed further due to a snag.

A reliable source told this correspondent that the committee had completed its job four months ago. When the stage of implementation of its findings came, it came to light that an amendment in the PCB constitution was required to move further. The PCB wrote to the Federal Sports Ministry in February this year to permit the necessary amendment so that the recommendations of the scrutiny committee could be incorporated. That will pave the way for fresh elections of the PCB council. However, the instructions from the Ministry are still being awaited.

The PCB had constituted the scrutiny committee under Major-General (retd.) Muhammad Safdar in December, 1994. It visited all places of the country to verify the genuineness of various clubs. The committee completed its painstaking job in more than two years and finalised its findings. The long wait is now delaying its implementation.
