PCB statement on allegations on Shoaib Akhtar

Press Release: PCB on reports from Sri Lanka alleging ball-tampering by Shoaib Akhtar

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) issued the following statement late Tuesday, May 20, 2003 after receiving media inquiries on telephone regarding reports from Sri Lanka that Shoaib Akhtar faces a possible ban if he is found guilty of ball-tampering during the sixth match of the Bank Alfalah Cup in Sri Lanka.

The PCB would like to state that till closing hours today no reference had been received from the ICC regarding Shoaib Akhtar and further added that the Tour Management and also the Chief Executive of the PCB who are in Sri Lanka would be in a better position to comment further.

Until the ICC contacts the PCB we cannot comment on the media reports emanating from Sri Lanka.
