After leading Australia to a World Cup title - hitting a century in the final - and racking up the runs around the world, Ricky Ponting hasn't exactly had a shabby season of it so far, but he said that he was determined to do well during the upcoming triangular series in India.

On his last tour of India - in 2001 - Ponting took away 17 runs from five Test innings, including three ducks. "I did not get too many with the bat then and I am keen to improve on that," he said during a press conference in New Delhi.

During that last tour, Ponting struggled chiefly against the offspin of Harbhajan Singh, and although he said that his technique against spin is "more or less the same," he was confident of doing better.

"In this game, you learn as you go along. I'd certainly not be thinking about those low scores in India, but it was a fantastic series overall. People back home still talk about it. The cricket was tough as it should be," he said.

"Playing against a team that has Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid and other young guns in their backyard is a real challenge," said Ponting. "We have the guys to do the job, but it'll still be tough. We are all keen to play India and New Zealand here and hopefully the results will be in our favour."
