5.10pm Another eventful day. A day on which Nos 7 and 9 scored double-centuries, and in another match a N0. 8 notched up a century. Another team was bowled out in 50.2 overs. A bowler threatened to take all 10 before he ran out of steam and needed help from his team-mates. A dour opener carried his bat through, only the second from Mumbai. Tomorrow is a big day. In Valsad, Uday Kaul has carried Punjab close to lead, but wickets are calling. At 227 for 7, they are still adrift. Kaul 63 not out

In Cuttack, Vidarbha are in control at 64 for 2, which is a total lead of 149. They bowled Odisha out for just 121 today

Despite a half-hour extension, Mumbai finish five overs short in Indore. The match hangs in balance with MP at 191 for 5, chasing 305 for a first-innings lead. Satyam Choudhury, who resembles S Badrinath with a few of his shots, is unbeaten on 73. Tomorrow's first session will be crucial. The pitch has been spicy in the mornings

In Agartala, only 58 overs have been possible over two days. Tripura have managed 170 for 5 in those 58 overs. Abhijit Dey is the top-scorer with an unbeaten 75

4.50pm - Stumps in Hubli Here's Siddarth Ravindran's eloquent summation of the day there: "On a day when Indian cricket's biggest icon stepped down from one-day international cricket, and India's squads for one of their most high-profile series was announced, Haryana's Amit Mishra and Jayant Yadav managed to grab a bit of the cricketing headlines for themselves with a 392-run partnership, the highest in the history of Ranji Trophy cricket for the eighth wicket.

There were plenty of astonishing things about the stand, besides the sheer magnitude of runs scored. It was forged by two lower-order batsmen who had never scored a first-class century previously, and both of them went on to complete double-hundreds. The 392 runs they realised was more than the Haryana team had managed in any innings this Ranji season - only once in six Ranji matches had their notoriously inconsistent batting scored more than 300. And they came together with the team in trouble at 168 for 7. File this stand in the Annals of Improbable Sporting Feats."

4.36pm - Double for Mishra too Siddarth Ravindran from Hubli: "Mishra gets his double-century with a comical stroke. For the first three balls of the over he couldn't get a run, so he charged out on the fourth. It was a boucer and he threw a wild flail at it. He got an edge and the ball soared over the keeper for four. Mishra immediately declared and sprinted off to the dressing room"

4.35pm - Poor over-rate in Mumbai We are minutes into overtime, and Mumbai are still 11 overs short. There is no way they will finish their 90 even if we go to 5pm. MP 170 for 5, going after Mumbai's 304

4.30pm - Siddarth Ravindran in Hubli

Drama in Hubli as the ninth wicket goes down with Amit Mishra on 198. Can he get to his double-century? He has Harshal Patel for company

4.10pm - Tardeo effect Mumbai seem to have had one trip too many to Sardar pav bhaji in Tardeo. The fingers have turned to butter. Another catch dropped. By Hiken Shah off Zaheer Khan this time. Wearing shin pads at slip, like Cheteshwar Pujara. After three of them, finally one sticks as Aditya Tare catches Rahul Bakshi off Iqbal Abdullah. MP 154 for 5

And now Shah removes them pads. Oh boy. They have sent another fielder into the slip, and now he has shin pads on

4.05pm - Himachal strong again Not only did their lower order take Himachal Pradesh to 189, a lead of 14, Rishi Dhawan has now dismissed J&K's captain Ian Dev Singh for a duck. J&K 4 for 1

4pm - Finally a wicket in Hubli "Yes you are... may be Suffering from a retiring announcement" Vinay Tej, I am not. However, about the partnership, it is over. Siddarth Ravindran reports: "After 451 minutes of pain for Karnataka, they finally strike. Jayant Yadav is dismissed for 211, lbw by Sharath. The epic stand ends on 392." Haryana 559 for 8 now. Mishra unbeaten on 187

3.55pm - Murtaza da man Ali Murtaza today scored a hundred from No. 8. He wasn't satisfied. He has turned up with the ball too, taking three of Tamil Nadu's four wickets. The three include both the Kathiks and M Vijay. Tamil Nadu 124 for 4

3.50pm "And now you have another typo, the record was not 413, its 433 " Vinay Tej, I of course meant 433. Having a bad day, aren't I?

3.35pm - Corrigendum "At 593/7, their partnership is just 8 runs short of the world record for 8th wicket partnership" Apologies Vinay Tej, that was a typo. Score was 539 for 7. Still some way to go then to break the world record for a stand for eighth wicket, currently held by Victor Trumper and Arthur Sims. They added 433 in 1913-14

At 549 for 7 now, Mishra and Yadav have added 381, which is already a Ranji record

3.30pm - Gujarat keep pegging away Gujarat have got rid of both half-centurions Mayank Sidhana and Mandeep Singh, but Punjab are still strong at 168 for 4. Only 98 behind Gujarat's total

3.25pm - Double for cool Jayant Yadav Siddarth Ravindran is watching like a hawk even as Karnataka run out of ideas in Hubli. He says: "200 for Jayant Yadav, 345 balls, 25 fours. Once again he gets to the milestone with a thick edge past the slip and down to third man, once again the man who has never scored even a first-class century in his career so far celebrates as if he has been making big runs all his life. Karnataka 539 for 7"

Well I haven't been able to find out first-class records for No. 9 batsmen, but if we narrow it to Tests, nobody has ever scored more than 173 in an innings from Ni. 9

3.20pm - Tight in Jammu Himachal are 173 for 9 now, trailing J&K by two runs. Parvez Rassol has taken two to go with Ram Dayal's six

3.15pm - Karnataka fumble Siddarth Ravindran reports the heartbreak for Karnataka fans in Hubli: "At last the wicket seemed to have arrived for Karnataka, who were sure they had Amit Mishra stumped for 183 off Amit Varma. The decision went up to the third umpire, though, and after at least four minutes of deliberation Mishra is reprieved. Mishra looked well out of his ground but Gautam took off the bails before collecting the ball"

So two keepers fluffing almost simultaneously

3.10pm - Nayar gets his man Abhishek Nayar had Udit Birla dropped off his bowling earlier but has now trapped him lbw. MP 118 for 4

PS: In the next over, Ajit Agarkar draws an edge from Satyam Choudhury, but Aditya Tare, the keeper, doesn't go for it. That's shoddy. He could have got there had he stretched his arms. No need to even move his feet, but he still didn't go for it

2.40pm - Lead tussle in Jammu Himachal have lost another. They are now 154 at 8, still 21 behind J&K's 175. However, if the state of affairs remains same, we might be headed for an outright result. Bhalaik gone for 40

It is also time for tea at most venues. MP are 108 for 3 against Mumbai. Agarkar has taken two, Zaheer one. Mumbai have dropped yet another catch. Wasim Jaffer at slip was the culprit this time. If Mumbai don't make it to the knockouts, a major part of blame will go to their fielding

Siddarth Ravindran from Hubli: "Mishra and Jayant Yadav have been together for an entire day now. Haryana are 529 for 7. The crowd has now stopped asking for declarations, instead joking they want one-pitch catches to count as dismissals and also calling for Karnataka to bowl under-arm"

2.20pm - Mishra-Yadav show continues Says Siddarth Ravindran from Hubli: "500 comes up for Haryana. Mishra and Yadav batting like top-order batsmen here. Karnataka aren't helping themselves either - HS Sharath putting down a sitter at mid-off. The fans have been shouting 'declare kar lo yaar' for a while now"

2.15pm - Odisha bowled out It has taken Vidarbha only 50.2 overs to bowl Odisha out for 121 and secure a first-innings lead of 85. Sandeep Singh took 4 for 39

2.13pm - Jagadeesh falls but Kerala in control VA Jagadeesh has fallen for 134, but Kerala have already reached 269 for 4. That's a lead of 179 already

2.10pm - Tussle intensifies in Jammu Ram Dayal won't get all 10, but he won't complain because Parves Rassol has broken a threatening stand to reduce Himachal to 123 for 7. They still trail by 52

2pm - Pawar's feat Kaustubh Pawar, with his 111 not out, became only the second Mumbai batsman to carry his bat through. Only Madhav Mantri has done that before

1.55pm - Action-packed afternoon in Cuttack Not such a good news for the hosts, though. After having kept Vidarbha down to 206, Odisha have collapsed to 115 for 8. Sandeep Singh has taken 4 for 36

1.50pm - Rajasthan keep striking The Singhs are on song. Rituraj has picked, Pankaj two. Saurashtra reeling at 100 for 5 in Jaipur

1.45pm - Zaheer strikes in Indore After captain Ajit Agarkar removed the two MP openers, Zaheer Khan - bowling a long spell - has pegged back the off stump of Devendra Bundela. MP 71 for 3

1.40pm - Himachal arrest slide Himachal have slowed down the runaway train that was Ram Dayal. They have doubled their score from 58 for 6 without any further loss. It's Mukesh Sharma and Aatish Bhalaik with the rearguard.

1.30pm - Records tumble in Hubli Reports Siddarth Ravindran: "The pain continues for Karnataka. The home side are running out of ideas. Now 150 for Amit Mishra, 256 balls. There are railway tracks just beside the stadium and as a train passes by, a fan shouts 'Gaadi aa raha hain, chale jao'. Haryana 459 for 7. And this is also now the highest-ever eight wicket stand in Ranji Trophy cricket"

1.10pm - Siddarth Ravindran from Hubli

150 for Jayant Yadav, 262 balls.. 21 fours.. Haryana 434 for 7. A good crowd is in at the Hubli stadium now but they are yet to see a wicket today. A nice moment in Hubli as it is announced over the PA in Kannada that Amit Mishra has been picked for the ODI squad against Pakistan. The crowd gives a loud cheer after the announcement but there is no reaction from Mishra as he has no idea what has been said

1pm - Punjab rebuild If Jiwanjot doesn't get you, Mayank Sidhana or Mandeep Singh or Uday Kaul will. Sidana not out on 50, Mandeep on 42 as Punjab recover to 97 for 2 in Valsad

12.30pm - As you have lunch This one was missed in the whole SRT distraction. Left-arm spinner Ali Murtaza, batting at No. 8, scored his maiden first-class century to take UP to 392 against Tamil Nadu in Chennai

Haryana 412 for 7, Mishra and Yadav piling it on at Hubli.They return to app;ause from the entire Haryana dressing room and Mishra mood improves further as he is told just before entering the pavilion that he has been picked in the ODI squad

11.50am - Jharkhand finally get a wicket Shahbaz Nadeem finally breaks through for Jharkhand. Robert Fernandez out for 111. Kerala, at 231 for 2, are ahead by 111 already. Jagadeesh not out on 116

11.40am - Mishra gets rewarded That century will feel a little sweeter for Amit Mishra as he has been picked to play ODIs against Pakistan, along with UP's Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Bengal's Shami Ahmed

11.25am - Mumbai bowled out Even as Sachin Tendulkar announces his ODI retirement, Mumbai have been bowled out for 304. Pawar 111 not out. Ishwar Pandey gets six. Now time for some Zaheer Khan

11.20am - Siddarth Ravindran from Hubli

Mishra and Yadav continue the recent trend of Indian spinners batting well. They bring up the 200 stand, and this is now comfortably Haryana's best partnership for the eighth wicket, beating the 38-year record of 153. "Saare single khule hain," is the advice from the Haryana dressing room as Karnataka spread the field

11.11am - Ram Dayal is on a massive roll That's six out of six for Ram Dayal. His figures now: 14-8-14-6. Himachal 58 for 6

11.10am - Pujara gone Pankaj Singh adds another tick to the check list on "What more do I need to do"? He has got Cheteshwar Pujara for 3. Saurashtra struggling at 18 for 3 in Jaipur

11.05am - Ram Dayal on fire against Himachal Ram Dayal Puniya: 13-7-14-5. Himachal: 58 for 5, in reply to J&K's 175. It's some match. Can RD get all 10?

11.02am - Jayant Yadav joins Amit Mishra Reports Siddarth Ravindran: "It is Jayant Yadav's turn to bring up his maiden first-class century. Not as stylish in reaching there as Mishra; a thick outside edge past slip takes him to three figures. A very composed celebration from him, just a calm wave of the bat towards the dressing-room, and then reluctantly removes his helmet as though it is something expected of him. Haryana 360 for 7"

11am - Waghmode scores century too Aditya Waghmode, too, has reached a century against Maharashtra as Baroda reach 290 for 4 in Pune

10.55am - Hyderabad lose Ashish Reddy Reddy is gone for 82, and Railways now have Hyderabad down at 302 for 8

10.52am - Muzumdar's feat Muzumdar's namesake Amol Karhadkar just informs me this: "Muzumdar, with his 27th century, is tied fourth with Amrjeet Kaypee in the list of batsmen with most Ranji hundreds. The top three being Ajay Sharma (31), Wasim Jaffer (29) and Hrishikesh Kanitkar (28)

10.50am - Rajasthan strike early After a dogged last-wicket stand worth 31, which took them to 299, Rajasthan's Singhs - Pankaj and Rituraj - have taken a wicket apiece to reduce Saurashtra to 16 for 2, which means Cheteshwar Pujara is out in the middle

10.43am - Kaustubh Pawar keeps on fighting Mumbai's K Pawar, who left balls outside off very well, has reached 100 off 302 balls even as wickets have been falling at the other end. Mumbai 268 for 9

10.42am - Ali Murtaza scores for UP Left-arm spinner Ali Murtaza has reached 75 as UP are now 318 for 7. They were 156 for 5 at one stage, in Chennai

10.40am - Shocking scenes in Valsad Jiwanjot Singh has been dismissed for a rare single-digit score. Punjab have lost both openers, and are 11 for 2 in response to Gujarat's 266

Still only a small crowd in, a few hundred people. Not making much noise either as Mishra and Jayant Yadav continue to frustrate the home side. Haryana 341 for 7, as Mishra stylishly flicks a full ball to the square-leg boundary

10.26am - Pandey gets five Ishwar Pandey, one to watch out for in the future, has finished a highly impressive five-for. Zaheer Khan isn't quite fancying the seam movement and extra bounce, and backs away and swings, edging him through to the keeper. Mumbai 262 for 9. Kaustubh Pawar running out of partners and is not out on 96

10.25am - Kerala continue domination Jharkhand are still looking for their second wicket. VA Jagadeesh has reached his century and Robert Fernandez is nearing his too. Kerala already leading by 76

10.21am - Captain Mishra stands tall From Siddarth Ravindran in Hubli: "The whole Haryana squad stands up and applauds as an Amit Mishra on-drive speeds away for four to bring up his maiden first-class century. Mishra is clearly delighted, celebrates with a leap and a vehement wave of his bat before kissing the badge on his helmet. Haryana 327 for 7"

10.20am - Andhra bowled out Muzumdar stays unbeaten on 108, but his last-wicket stand worth 30 has taken Andhra to 249. And the No. 11, P Vijay Kumar, scored only six of those 30

10.17am - More misfortune for MP Anand Rajan, who has taken two wickets this morning, seems to be throwing up at the boundary. He doesn't look well, and is going off the field

10.15am - Haryana keep Karnataka on the field Reports Siddarth Ravindran: "Jayant Yadav struck on the gloves by a shortish ball from SL Akshay, he walks off towards square leg trying to shake off the pain. The physio comes out to take a look. The Haryana dressing room has been pretty vocal this morning. Shouts of ‘Lage raho, achcha chal raha hain yaar’, ‘shabash, shabash’, ‘dimaag kholke khelo, cool-minded, cool-minded’"

10.12am - Game on in Cuttack Odisha might have vowled Vidarbha out for 206, but they have lost their openers already, including the debutant Girija Rout. They are 21 for 2 now. Both wickets to Sandeep Singh

10.10am - Rajasthan frustrate Saurashtra Dishant Yagnik and No. 11 Sumit Mathur ahve added 30 for the last wicket to take Rajasthan to 298 for 9

10.05am - JJ in the house, dawg Sandeep Sharma has taken four wickets to dismiss Gujarat out for 266, which means we all rise to welcome the man of the season, Jiwanjot Singh, to the middle. Amol Karhadkar recently met him

10am - J&K fight They were bowled out for 175 by Himachal, but J&K have taken two early wickets. Ram Dayal, who scored a crucial unbeaten 35, has taken both the wickets. Aakash Chopra and Paras Dogra gone. Himachal 34 for 2

9.55am - Scenes from Hubli Reports Siddarth Ravindran: "Stray chants of ‘Gavaskar, Gavaskar’ causing much merriment in the stands. An old man walks over towards the press box and loudly asks the scorers to make more announcements to help the spectators follow the match better. 'Why can’t you tell us scores at the end of every over?' he asks, before walking off. Haryana meanwhile have calmly progressed to 308, their highest total of the season"

9.52am - Some more lovely fielding from MP In Indore, MP have struck twice in the first 22 minutes, and a big part of the second wicket is down to substitute fielder Z Ali, who took a diving catch at short leg off the bowling of Anand Rajan. Staright off the bat it came. Ajit Agarkar is gone for nought. Did I hear Bombay Duck? Mumbai 251 for 7

PS: They have dropped one as we speak. Rajan produces an edge, looking for the third wicket in this over, but Iqbal Abdullah is dropped at second slip by Udit Birla. why is Harpreet Singh not there? Had this sitter been taken, Rajan would have been on a hat-trick

9.50 - Siddarth Ravindran has reached the Hubli ground

Walking in to the Hubli stadium around 9am, you were greeted by the sounds of a remixed version of the 'Ghosbusters' soundtrack followed up half an hour of electronic dance music straight out of a nightclub. Not that much of a crowd in yet, but it is expected to grow as the day progresses.

9.45am - Run out on Sunday morning You start the day on 104, have the attack at your mercy, are looking for a big one, and then you get run out without adding to your overnight score. Kedar Devdhar of Baroda gone for 104. They are now 260 for 4 against Maharashtra in Pune

9.40am - Odisha get the job done Odisha have duly got the last two wickets this morning. Vidarbha bowled out for 206. Basanth Mohanty and Biplab Samantray get three wickets each

9.30am - Pandey is back Other matches starting too. Ishwar Pandey, who pulled his calf muscle yesterday, is back, has served time, and MP have taken the new ball. This is a crucial period. Pandey has been impressive, and will test the Mumbai batsmen

Meanwhile Vidarbha have lost their ninth

9.25am - Fight from Vidarbha lower order too Vidarbha began the day at 188 for 8, but their ninth-wicket partnership has held Assam up in Guwahati. Their 22-run partnership has taken Vidarbha to 203 for 8

9.20am - Muzumdar gets fighting century No. 11 P Vijay Kumar hangs around with him as Amol Muzumdar, the leading Ranji run-getter of all time, scores his fourth century this year. It's not just about the century. It's just the landmark, but Andhra have now scored crucial lower-order runs, and are 238 for 9 now

9.15am - Amol v time Muzumdar has fought time on his career well. Today he is running out of time as he looks for his 29th first-class century, which will be his fourth this season. He is 91 not out, but No. 10 has left him. He has the last man P Vijay Kumar for company, and needs nine more

9.10am - Confused domestic cricket VB Chandrasekhar, an attacking wicketkeeper-batsman when he played, a forthright national selector after that and now Tamil Nadu coach, has come out scathing against the way domestic cricket is played in India. In an interview with Wisden India, he says, "Domestic cricket seems to be in a transitional phase. People are unaware whether they want to be good first-class players or good Twenty20 players. There’s huge confusion in the way they approach the game. From a coach’s perspective, the strategies I see being employed to get wickets last about ten overs. If nothing happens, for the next 30 overs the ball is pitched a foot and a half outside the offstump. I sometimes hate to call it even a transitional phase, with so much negativity to the fore.

To elaborate on the four-day and Twenty20 collision, it seems at times that people are using this four-day game to see if they can whip up enough interest to be good Twenty20 players."

9am - Eyes on Amol In Guwahati, Assam have started trying to get the last two Andhra wickets out. Amol Muzumdar is nearing a century, and needs support from Nos 10 and 11. Muzumdar 85 not out, Andhra 217 for 8

8.55am - Teams nearing end of innings First order of the day will be to see how long Vidarbha, Rajasthan and Gujarat drag out their innings. As we get the updates, let us thank Hubli for turning out in numbers for the Ranji game. We have all known for years that small towns is where it's at for Ranji Trophy

For most fans it was their first time in the stadium, and they lapped up the experience. "We used to play here as kids before the stadium was built," said Pralhad Kulkarni, an insurance salesman, who grew up in the neighbourhood. "I just wanted to see how the area has changed with the stadium. It was good to watch a match live, totally different from watching on TV. It's great to see it with so many people around who are also watching and discussing it."

All this can often be taken for granted in major centres
