2006-07 HKCA Saturday League
Fine conditions greeted players for round 17 of the Saturday League, played on 27th January 2007.
At Mission Road, Laguna Gully thrashed SCC Vampires by 102 runs. Ravi Desai scored 123 runs as Laguna Gully smashed the day's best score of 286-6 from their 35 overs, with Prakash Chakravarti contributing 42 and Abhishek Desai finishing unbeaten on 49. Prashant Mehta then grabbed three wickets as SCC Vampires were restricted to 184-9 in reply. Tanmay Bijur was the best of the Vampires' batsmen, hitting 46.
On the Po Kong Village Road number two ground, Crusaders kept their league aspirations alive with a hard fought four wicket victory over Lamma. Rizwan Sattar hit an unbeaten 119 for Lamma while Butt Hussain scored 72 as Lamma posted 233-6 from their 35 overs. Manoj Cheruparambil was the best of the Crusaders' bowlers, grabbing three wickets. In reply, Ray Brewster and Simon Scanlon both hit forties as Crusaders reached their target for the loss of six wickets.
Crusaders' victory moved them back ahead of LSW Warriors at the head of the Saturday League points table and the two teams will meet in a feature clash at Kowloon Cricket Club next week.
Things were more clear-cut on the Po Kong Village number one ground where Kai Tak enjoyed a 73-run victory over Mainlanders. Steve Campbell fell two runs shy of his first century of the season as Kai Tak made 205-9 from their 35 overs, with Tiku Patidar also pitching in with 39. For Mainlanders, Yasir and Sajiid claimed three wickets apiece. Mainlanders batting efforts were lead by Harmeet Singh, but their total of 132-9 was well short of their target. Richard Symington collected four wickets for Kai Tak.
Tartars enjoyed a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Centaurs in a match played at Kowloon Cricket Club. Centaurs scored 181-8 in their 35 overs with Neel top-scoring with 45 and Keith Frith hitting 34, while Devang Shah claimed three wickets. Shkawat Ali continued his recent good form by hitting an unbeaten 69 as Tartars eased to their victory for the loss of only three wickets - all claimed by Centaur's Royce McDonald.
Across at Hong Kong Cricket Club, St George's threw the formbook out the window as they beat Witherers by 9 runs in one of many surprise results over the weekend. St George's could only muster 175 runs in their innings with Vicky Niaz top scoring with 45 and Ayub hitting 44, while Sean Robson claimed four wickets for Witherers. Ayub and Aftab Mukhtar then gabbed three wickets each as Witherers were restricted to just 166 in reply with Mark Ferguson scoring 32 and Hugo Davison finishing unbeaten on 52.
At the Police Training College, Nomads scored a four-wicket victory over Police. Imran Nasir top scored with 79 as Police were restricted to 166-9 from their 35 overs. Mal Costain claimed three wickets for Nomads. Toby Brown scored an unbeaten 68 as Nomads reached their victory target for the loss of six wickets.
Nomads' victory moved them to third place on the points table and a into a position to challenge for the title should either of the two top teams slip up in the later rounds.
In the final match of the day, CCC failed to break their duck for the season as they succumbed to HKU at Sandy Bay. Tahir Khan and Bruce Abernathy shared six wickets for just 32 runs as the CCC batting line-up was dismantled for just 133 runs. Gary Wines was the only CCC batsman to offer an resistance - his 47 runs being the stand-out performance. Bruce Abernathy followed up his bowling efforts by top scoring with 62 not out as HKU romped to a nine-wicket victory.

2006-07 HKCA Sunday League
Fine conditions again prevailed for round seventeen of the Sunday League and a spate of surprise results may have sealed the outcome of the competition.
Pakistan Association enjoyed their best win of the season as they posted a seven-wicket victory over second placed Little Sai Wan at Po Kong Village Road. Batting first, LSW was dismissed for 196 from 47.4 overs with Jawaid Iqbal hitting 47, Azhar Illahi 39 and Irfan Ahmed 36 while Butt Hussain grabbed three wickets for the Pakistan Association. In reply, Butt Hussain hit an unbeaten century and Nasir Hameed scored 52 as Pakistan Association eased to victory in just over 36 overs.
SCC Vagabonds put a tumultuous week behind them to post their second victory of the season with a 37-run win over Templars at Kowloon Cricket Club. Batting first, Vagabonds scored a reasonable 232-7 from 47 overs with Prashanth top scoring with 63 while Rajesh Nanda scored 54 and Sher Lama 47. Shkawat Ali claimed three wickets for Templars. Templars would have been hoping to erase the memory of their 4-run loss to Vagabonds earlier in the season, but a fine bowling effort by Gopal, who grabbed four wickets, and Satish Kumar, who picked up three, saw the KCC side vanquished for just 195 runs in the 40th over, despite half-centuries from Rahul Sharma and Mathew Colins.
Millennium CC made it a good day for the independent clubs as they beat HKCC Scorpions by three wickets at Mission Road. Nick Gavin-Brown (79) top scored for Scorpions as they mustered a total of 225-9 from their 50 overs. Masood was the chief destroyer, claiming five wickets. In a tight finish, Millennium reached their target in the penultimate over for the loss of seven wickets. Rizwan Sattar provided the bulk of the runs for Millennium with an unbeaten 86 while Waseem Imtiaz scored 66.
Wanderers enjoyed the most comprehensive victory of the day as they thrashed KCC's Infidels by 162 runs at Hong Kong Cricket Club. Centuries by Todd Hoare (123) and Imran Idrees (110) and an unbeaten half-century by Kenneth Thiedeman saw the home side post an impressive 293-5 from their 50 overs. Hugo Davison then grabbed four wickets while Neil Jones claimed three of his own to dismiss the Infidels for just 131 in 30.3 overs. Anthony Barnet was the best of the Infidels' batsmen, hitting 65.

2006-07 HKCA Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League
Neisha Pratt scored another century as Lamma thrashed LSW by 164 runs in the last match of the HKCA Skitz Sports Bar Women's Cricket League, played at Po Kong Village on 28th January 2007.
Pratt's third century of the season enabled Lamma to post an impressive 225-2 from their 35 overs, with Bethan Greaves (38) and Sam McIlwraith (35*) providing able support. LSW, with only 8 players available, were dismissed for just 61 runs in reply as Kylie Knott ran through their line-up in a seven over spell during which she picked up four wickets.
