Uthappa had been named in the South Zone squad for the Duleep Trophy, which will begin on October 3 with a quarter-final between South Zone and West Zone in Chennai.

Uthappa tweeted about the injury: "Hey guys! Will be missing the Duleep Trophy as I strained my hamstring in my last match! In a rehab programme for 2weeks."

Uthappa has been busy in the last month playing limited-overs matches against New Zealand A and West Indies A before the Challenger Trophy. He scored 161 runs, including a hundred, in three unofficial ODIs against New Zealand A at an average of 53.67, and 60 runs in the next three unofficial ODIs against West Indies A. In the two innings he played in the Challenger Trophy, he produced scores of 9 and 7.

He will hope to be fit in time for the Ranji Trophy in which Karnataka's first match starts on November 7 against Jharkhand.
