Justin Langer has thrown his support behind his Western Australia team-mate Chris Rogers in the race to replace Langer at the top of Australia's Test line-up. Rogers and Phil Jaques are considered the frontrunners to join Matthew Hayden and on Pura Cup form this season Rogers deserves to be the favourite.

His latest innings was 110 in the Warriors' innings defeat of South Australia last week against an attack that included Shaun Tait and Jason Gillespie. It was his third century in 2006-07 and he is the leading Pura Cup run-scorer with 909 runs at 90.90. Jaques, on the other hand, continued to struggle in his latest game and has only 380 runs at 31.66.

Langer said Rogers' outstanding season and first-class record in general was proof he was ready for Test cricket. "Of course he's good enough, there's no doubt," Langer told AAP. "You can't make this many runs and not be good enough.

"But it's 11 months until the next Test match so it is all going to be about timing. He's good enough, Jaques is a good player, Mike Hussey might open again, who knows? It is all going to be about timing and the balance of the Australia team. But he is doing everything he can at the moment to put his name up there."

Rogers said although he opened the season with 279 against Victoria last week's 110, which helped Western Australia win within two days, was a highlight of his year. "I think that was one of the better centuries I've got," he said. "The wicket was pretty tough and they bowled particularly well, so I was really pleased and really happy that I saw out the hard bit and got through.

"You have got to have pretty high ambitions, you don't really play the game unless you do. Hopefully my chances [of playing Test cricket] are getting better by the day."
