Hansie Cronje steps down as Free State skipper
South African captain Hansie Cronje became the latest to feel the pressures of a hectic international schedule, when he stepped down as captain of the Free State side.
``Last season, I felt out of touch with Free State cricket,`` Cronje explained, after putting in his papers. ``When I came back from international duty, I found it difficult to take part in selecting the Free State side as I had no idea who was in form."
Cronje, who has led the provincial side for seven years and, in that time, won seven tournaments, will now yield place to Free State middle order batsman Louis Wilkinson.
