SABC acquire rights to ICC tournaments

The South African Broadcasting Corporation has been awarded the exclusive radio and television broadcasting rights in South Africa for all global International Cricket Council tournaments for the next seven years, it was announced on Thursday

The South African Broadcasting Corporation has been awarded the exclusive radio and television broadcasting rights in South Africa for all global International Cricket Council tournaments for the next seven years, it was announced on Thursday.

The tournaments included in this period are:

The 2003 World Cup in South Africa;

The 2007 World Cup in the West Indies;

The 2002, 2004 and 2006 ICC Knockout tournaments;

The 2001 and 2005 ICC Associate Members Trophies;

The 2002, 2004 and 2006 Under-19 World Cups.

"We appreciate the fact that the SABC deems it important that, for this seven-year period, all South Africans should be able to watch these global cricketing events on television," said United Cricket Board managing director Ali Bacher. "We expect unprecedented interest in and support for the game by all."
