Having been favourites before the series began, their favouritism for this match is no surprise. but they also have a little momentum after their comfortable and impressive win in match four which forced the decider.
However, Pakistan, who are 11/10 (2.10) to win on Monday, are probably the most unpredictable international side out there and South Africa know that if the home side produces a top performance they will be very hard to beat.
The match has been switched from Karachi to Lahore for security reasons. South Africa won there earlier in the series, when Herschelle Gibbs and AB De Villiers both scored centuries, so they will be pretty confident once more.
Pakistan do have a wildcard, however, who could yet prove crucial. Shoaib Akhtar is back after a 13-match international ban and, if selected and if fit, he will provide the attack with that bit of extra pace they perhaps lack. It's hard to think that he will be 100 percent fit, though, so perhaps his selection is just a red herring.
Captain favourite
Having dominated the Test series, Jacques Kallis has barely troubled the scorers in this one-day series and for the first time in the five matches, the bookies have reacted by removing him from the top of the batting market.
Instead, captain Graeme Smith is the favourite at 10/3, just ahead of Kallis at 7/2, with Gibbs 4/1 and De Villiers 9/2. Justin Kemp is 7/1, Jean-Paul Duminy 17/2 and Shaun Pollock, who was promoted to No 3 last time out and responded with a top-scoring 90, is a big price at 9/1.
Pakistan have never really had the luxury of a good start in this series and have had to rely on Younis Khan and Mohjammad Yousuf to set up big totals. Younis shades favouritism to be his side's top runscorer at 3/1, with Yousuf just behind on 10/3.
Opener Imran Nazir is 9/2, while Salman Butt and captain Shoaib Malik are both 5/1. Yasir Hameed is 11/2, Mohammad Hafeez 6/1 and the big-hitting Shahid Afridi and Khalid Latif are both 13/2 chances.
As said, Pakistan's opening partnerships have been poor and South Africa deserve their favouritism to have the better opening stand at 8/13.
South Afica are the more consistent side, by a mile, and if their big guns fire then they are tough to beat. But Pakistan have home advantage and if they play to their potential on Monday, they could just snatch a series win which would probably mean more to them than it would to Graeme Smith's side, which makes their motivation that much more important.
