An Indian version of the show, Cricket Star, launched last week and more than 25,000 people applied to be on it. Among other prizes, the winner will be awarded a contract with Leicestershire.

"Cricket is a racially integrated sport across the world, and ignites huge passion in India," explained Fraser Castellino, the CEO of Cricket Star. "While it is not the most popular sport in the UK, it is undergoing a large revival, and it is a critically important sport for the integration of British Asians in the UK. Hence, Shilpa will be the perfect host."

Investors in Cricket, the organisation behind the ill-fated International 20:20 Club Championship in 2005, have plans to launch the UK version in June or July. The firm has strong commercial links with Leicestershire, hence the prize.
