Conditions were once again fine and cool for round 15 of the HKCA Saturday League played on 13th January 2007. Only five matches were played as HKU enjoyed a bye and the Police Training College was occupied for other duties.
At Kowloon Cricket Cricket Club, Crusaders put on a dominant performance to thrash last year's champions SCC Vampires by 161 runs. Batting first, the Crusaders batsmen made the most of the conditions to post a formidable total of 261 from their 35 overs with Rob Taylor just failed to complete his second century of the week as he finished unbeaten on 98 from 69 balls. He received good support from skipper Anthony Barnet who hit a typically belligerent 74. In reply, SCC Vampires could only must a total of 100 as the top order was knocked over by Imran Farcy, who claimed four wickets. Crusaders' victory sees them move to the top of the Saturday League Points Table for the first time this season.
Across at the Hong Kong Cricket Club, the home team Gap Ramblers suffered a six wicket loss at the hands of the Hong Kong Under-19s. Gap Ramblers could manage only 161-8 from their 35 overs and the Hong Kong Under-19s had little trouble knocking off the required runs as James Atkinson hit a stylish 86 not out.
Witherers suffered a similar fate against Kai Tak at Mission Road. Phil Pemberton led Witherers to a total of 198-6 with a top score of 78. But Kai Tak passed that total for the loss of only four wickets, thanks to an unbeaten 64 from Brad Haskett.
It wasn't all bad news for HKCC teams as Nomads kept the Club's honour intact with a six wicket defeat of St George's at Po Kong Village Road Number 1. St George's batted first and posted a solid 213-9 from their 35 overs with Iftikhar Ahmed top scoring with 77 and Luke Rewega grabbing three wickets. Chris O'Sullivan led Nomads chase with a fine 68 and he received good support from Travis Smithson who scored 42.
On the adjacent pitch, Tartars savoured the sweet taste of victory over Laguna Gully. Shkawat Ali hit a brilliant 116 not out as the Tartars batsmen racked up an impressive 247-5 from their 35 overs, with Mohammed Azam also contributing 83 runs. The Laguna Gully batsmen made a good effort to chase down the total but in the end finished 39 runs short. Vikram Thareja top scored with 62 while Anand Ramaswamy hit 43.
