Sidebottom still decent value

Ryan Sidebottom and James Anderson were the most successful of England's bowlers in the first Test match at Lord's and there is plenty of value in the top England series bowler market, with two Tests to go

Ryan Sidebottom, who was the outstanding bowler when the two sides met in New Zealand just a couple of months ago, began as the 6/4 favourite and bet365 now make him the 11/10 favourite after his six-wicket haul in the first Test.

But James Anderson is breathing down his neck after taking five wickets over the two innings and he should like bowling at Old Trafford, the venue for the second Test, having played for Lancashire ever since he became a professional in 2002.

In theory, Anderson is much better value at 5/2, while Stuart Broad is not out of it at 4/1 after three wickets at Lord's. But Sidebottom is still the one to beat. He, too, should enjoy bowling at Old Trafford, particularly if there is some cloud cover, and the fact that he is a left-armer will always give him a slight edge when he bowls well, so even the 11/10 is worth taking.

Double-up on Ryan
Before the first Test, Bet365 offered 4/5 that Sidebottom would take 14 or more wickets in the series. Those of you who took that price should be feeling pretty confident - as I said at the time, providing he plays all three matches and doesn't have any fitness concerns, he should make that - remember he took 24 in New Zealand, in less favourable conditions than he is likely to find in England.
