Simon Jones fined for send-off
Simon Jones has been fined 20 percent of his match fee for gesturing towards the pavilion
Simon Jones has been fined 20 percent of his match fee for gesturing towards the pavilion after his dismissal of Matthew Hayden, during the third day of the second Test at Edgbaston.
The fine, which equates to approximately £1000, was imposed by the match referee, Ranjan Madugalle, after Jones was reported by all the umpires, including the off-field officials, for a breach of the International Cricket Council's code of conduct.
After Hayden was caught at slip by Marcus Trescothick for 31, Jones ran down the pitch and pointed at the batsman, and was charged under section 1.6 of the code, for "pointing or gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner by a bowler or other member of the fielding side upon dismissal of a batsman."
Jones, who pleaded guilty to the charge, was deemed to have committed a level one offence under the code by the former Sri Lankan captain, Madugalle.
