Mathew Sinclair has been added to New Zealand's squad for their limited-overs series against South Africa. Sinclair will replace Craig Cumming, who suffered multiple facial fractures from a Dale Steyn bouncer during the second Test.
Sinclair is the form batsman in New Zealand's domestic competition after he began the season with an unbeaten 243 for Central Districts last week. He would also add some experience to the New Zealand top order, which has struggled in the Tests and will looking for a turnaround in the three ODIs.
"Sinclair deserves the selection based on his early season form," New Zealand Cricket's selection manager Richard Hadlee said. "It is not a time to experiment with new players and Sinclair will add experience to the squad."
Although he only scraped into New Zealand's contract list for this season after Hamish Marshall decided to pursue his career in England, Sinclair was considered a better chance of making his return in Test cricket rather than limited-overs games. He has played 45 ODIs but has not found a place in the one-day team since February 2005.
