A severely under-strength NSW was dismissed for 186 in reply to Tasmania's 376 in the two-day, 100-overs-per side match at Tunks Oval.

Slater reached 11 before he was run out. Having gone from the Test side to being dropped from NSW in a horror stretch last season, he is desperate to get his career back on track.

He made 42 in the Blues' six-wicket loss to New Zealand in a trial at Wollongong last week.

Left-arm chinaman bowler Shannon Tubb was the pick of the Tasmanian bowlers today with 4-47 from 15.3 overs. For NSW, Dominic Thornely top scored with 47.

The Blues were out of the game when they slumped to 5-75.
