Sports Reporter
LAHORE, Dec. 2: Pakistan will be hosting the tours of South Africa and the West Indies teams next season, besides hosting a four-nation cricket tournament in between them.
The PCB cricket manager Waqar Ahmad told this correspondent at the Qadhafi Stadium on Monday afternoon that the South African side will visit in October and November, 1997 to play three Tests and as many one-day international matches. The team will stay on to take part in the tournament being organised as part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Pakistan. Beside the host side, the teams from South Africa, the West Indies and world cup champion Sri Lanka will also take part in the tournament.
The West Indies side will later stay on after the tournament to play three Tests and as many one-day international matches against the Pakistan side. That will make the 1997-98 cricket season the most hectic in the history of the game in our country.
While replying to a question from this correspondent, Waqar Ahmad said that the itineraries of the two world-class teams and schedule of the four-nation tournament was being worked out and would be released as soon as the venues of matches are finalised.
