The Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) selected Paul Klarenaar, an Australian, to be the Sri Lankan team's new physiotherapist at an executive committee meeting on Wednesday night. Klarenaar, one of 14 applicants for the post, will start an 18-month contract on September 1, the same day that the former Australian opener John Dyson takes over as national coach.
Klarenaar's appointment fills the void left by the departure of Alex Kontouri, the team physio for the last seven years. Kontouri returned home to Australia voluntarily after the expiry of his contract in May 2003.
CJ Clarke, appointed as an interim physio during a three-month period that included the Bank Alfalah Cup and Sri Lanka's tour of the West Indies, will be employed as Under-19 and A team physio for the next 18 months.
