The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has nominated two former captains as beneficiaries to the Cricketers` Benefit Fund Series (CBFS) during the Sharjah Cup tournament to be held in Sharjah in November this year.
Anura Tennekoon who led Sri Lanka in the first two World Cup tournaments in England in 1975 and 1979 is one of them. The other is Sri Lanka`s first Test captain Bandula Warnapura.
While Tennekoon`s name was unanimously accepted by the ExCo of the Board, Warnapura faced a contest with Roy Dias who was outvoted 9-2 by the committee.
Each of the beneficiaries will receive US$ 17,500. Former Sri Lanka captain Duleep Mendis and former Sri Lanka cricketer Abu Fuard are the previous beneficiaries of the CBFS from Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka team will participate in the Sharjah Cup tournament.
