Krish Srikkanth retires (8 Oct 93) The 33 year old (b 21 Dec 1959), former Indian skipper and swashbuckling opener Krishnamachari Srikkanth, announced his retirement from first class cricket, last night at a press conference in his home town Madras. He represented India in 43 tests, scored 2061 runs at an average of 29.88. He led India in 4 tests against Pak in 1989. He said, the decision was his own, as impetuous as his batting. He did not consult anyone, including his family and friends, who he was sure would not have agreed. One of the reasons cited was his business and also added, that he now does not see any chances of his being recalled to the Indian team. He was his usual jovial self throughout the conference, admitting, he enjoyed his cricket thoroughly and was happy with his decision, saying that all good things come to an end.
