England may have packed their ICC World Twenty20 squad with specialist players but their campaign has suffered because of a brittle top order. Their openers have added 20, 29, 0 and 62 in four matches so far, and you can't help but wonder if someone like Marcus Trescothick, who averages nearly 40 at a strike-rate of 147.38 in domestic Twenty20 matches, but had made himself unavailable for selection for this tournament, would have made a difference. This week, the List looks at the best Twenty20 players on the domestic circuit who haven't made it to the championship in South Africa.
Australia picked their one-day team and did not include the allrounder Cameron White in their Twenty20 squad, despite his impressive form for Somerset. White holds the record for the highest Twenty20 score - 141 not out off 70 balls against Worcestershire - and has an average of nearly 50 and a strike-rate of 165.75. He also shares the record for the second highest score, 116 off 53 balls against Gloucestershire. He's in Pakistan at the moment on an Australia A tour.

Pakistan left opener Imran Farhat out of their Twenty20 squad, a decision which prompted Farhat to give up his central contract and sign for the Indian Cricket League. Farhat has an impressive Twenty20 record - an average of 36.30, strike-rate of 165, and a high score of 115 for the Lahore Eagles. Meanwhile Pakistan's openers - Salman Butt, Imran Nazir and Mohammad Hafeez - have had a torrid time in South Africa, adding only 9, 12, 22 and 25 for the first wicket. Another Australian allrounder, Ian Harvey, is the only player to have scored three domestic Twenty20 hundreds, two for Yorkshire and one for Gloucestershire. He averages 35.46 with the bat and has a strike-rate of nearly 170. He also has a handy bowling record - 33 wickets in 32 matches at an economy-rate of 8 an over.

While the spinners have been hammered for plenty on the small grounds in South Africa, they've been successful on the domestic circuit. Five out of the top six bowlers with the best economy-rates who haven't been chosen in their national Twenty20 squads are spinners.
The best economy-rate, however, belongs to left-arm medium-pacer Cliff Deacon, who has bowled 86 overs for the Eagles and conceded only 5.52 runs an over. He has also taken 34 wickets in 23 matches at an average of just under 14.

Tasmania's allrounder Michael Dighton is the only player to have taken a six-for and scored a century in Twenty20 matches. He took 6 for 25 off three overs against Queensland in January 2007 but his spell couldn't prevent Queensland from piling up 202 and winning by 38 runs. Nine days later Dighton led Tasmania into the domestic Twenty20 final by hammering 111 off 56 deliveries in his side's 37-run win against New South Wales.
