• Klusener's 75* is the highest by any South African batsman at number eight. This obliterated Shaun Pollock's 66 against England at Cape Town on 09-01-1996. In fact only two batsmen have exceded Klusener's effort at batting position eight. Pakistan's Wasim Akram made 79 against Sri Lanka at Visakhapatnam on 27-03-1999 and New Zealand's Chris Harris made 77* against Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on 01-10-1997.
• The previous highest by a number eight batsman against India was Zimbabwean Heath Streak's 59 at Sharjah on 08-11-1998.
• Lance Klusener, when on 18, completed his 2000 runs in ODIs in his 78th match (and 68th innings). He became seventh South African and 85th bastman overall to cross 2000 runs in ODIs.
• Klusener also became second South African after Hansie Cronje and 14th allrounder to complete the double of 2000 runs and 100 wickets in a career.
• The partnership of 114 runs between Mark Boucher and Lance Klusener is highest for South Africa for seventh wicket against all countries. Incidentally the previous record stand was also achieved against India as Hansie Cronje and Brian McMillan put on 79 runs at Sharjah on 19-04-1996.
• The Boucher-Klusener partnership is the highest by any side against India for seventh wicket putting into shade the 102* run stand between Australia's Steve Waugh and Greg Dyer at Delhi on 02-10-1986. It is also the fourth highest for this wicket position in all ODIs. The details:

• Saba Karim did not concede a bye in South Africa's total. It was the ninth occasion when an Indian 'keeper did not concede a bye in opponents' total of 300 plus. • Javagal Srinath's figures (6-0-65-0) are the second most expensive by any bowler in a six over spell in ODIs after Kenya's Rajab Ali's 6-0-67-0 (v Sri Lanka, Kandy, 06-03-1996). • Sachin Tendulkar became second batsman in ODIs to complete his 9000 runs when his score reached 50 . The only other batsman with 9000 plus runs is fellow Indian Mohammad Azharuddin (9222 runs from 327 matches). Tendulkar has taken 242 matches and 235 innings as against Azharuddin's 320 and 294 respectively to accomplish this feat.
• Tendulkar on 59, completed his 1000 runs against South Africa in his 33rd match. He became only the batsman to do so after Australia's Steve Waugh and fellow Indian Mohammad Azharuddin. The accompanying table lists leading run-scorers against South Africa.
