Rajiv Nayyar's world record:

Himachal Pradesh's skipper Rajiv Nayyar set a new record for the longest stay at the wicket beating Pakistan's Hanif Mohammad's almost 42 years old record.

Playing against Jammu and Kashmir at his hometown Chamba, Nayyar batted for 16 hours and 55 minutes (i.e.1015 minutes) scoring 271 runs to put Pakistan's little master Hanif Mohammad's record of 970 minutes against West Indies at Bridgetown in January 1958 to shade. Nayyar,in the course, became first batsman from Himachal Pradesh to score a double hundred.

Rajiv started his marathon innings on the second day of the match after 59 minutes of the play with Himachal's score reading one for 39 (Jammu and Kashmir had been dismissed for 249 in 88.4 overs on the first day) and batted through out the full day scoring 89 runs. He was still on the crease at the end of the play on the third day with 170 runs on his name. On the fourth day, Rajeev broke Hanif Mohammad's record after tea. When hapless Jammu and Kashmir bowling attack finally succeded in getting him out, Nayyar had batted for 1015 minutes for his 271 runs playing 728 balls and hitting 26 fours and a six. He was ninth out with Himachal's score reading 552.

The previous record of longest individual innings in a Ranji Trophy match was held by Punjab's Bhupinder Singh Junior who batted for 785 minutes for his 297 against Delhi in 1994-95.Kedar Chavan of Baroda with 760 minutes (v Punjab,1993-94) and V Arjuna Raja of Karnataka with 747 minutes (v Bengal,1990-91) follow him.

Skipper Prahlad Rawat played 110 balls for two runs in his two hours' stint at the crease. Yere Goud played 181 balls for his 13 runs. For Madhya Pradesh,Manish Majithia returned the figures of 20-20-0-1! (He had figures of 12.3-9-3-0 in the first innings). The tactics paid off and Railways ended the match with second innings score of 86 for five in 109 overs.
