Brooks, 41, comes from the same position in the Finsbury Food Group and his key early jobs will be guiding the redevelopment of Hove and getting involved in changes to the structure of county cricket.

"Cricket has always been a great passion of mine. I have wanted to use my business knowledge in that field," he told BBC Southern Counties Radio. "Both cricket and bakery are about consumers. We have to give people services they enjoy - there are links. We have to improve our revenue streams, which is about doing a thousand little things better."

"We've appointed consultants to advise us on our options about Hove and we need to create a sustainable business model."

Mackay left Sussex to take up the managing director role at Surrey.
