Sussex have signed 18-year-old Luke Wells, son of former England batsman Alan, on a three-year summer contract which will take him through to the end of his studies at Loughborough University.
A left-handed batsman, he scored his maiden second team hundred in 2009 and according to the club has outstanding potential.
"I am obviously very excited about this fantastic opportunity that I have been given as it is what I have been striving for since I started playing the game," Wells said. "I realise that this is the first stepping stone on to bigger things and the real work starts from here on in."
"Luke is a young cricketer full of potential and talent," said Sussex coach Mark Davis. "It's exciting for both him and the club and we look forward to him joining the squad next summer. Luke impressed in the Academy and 2nd XI this year - scoring a great hundred, which is a fantastic achievement for someone so young. We're hopeful that he'll kick on and become the player that we know he can be."
