A week after Dalbir Singh, the 18-year-old cricketer from India, went missing, the Middlesbrough Police remained clueless about his whereabouts. Dalbir, who studies in the DAV Public School in Patiala, had come to the UK on a cricket tour orgainsed by Saltburn Cricket Club but vanished after a visit to the Middlesbrough town centre to do some shopping.
A police spokeswoman said Dalbir was last seen near McDonalds in the Cleveland Centre in Middlesbrough at around 4.30pm last Monday. He added that Dalbir had not made contact with his school party and failed to appear for their first match, which was played in Saltburn last Tuesday. Inspector Ted Allen of Middlesbrough police said he was last seen wearing a light cream baseball cap, a short-sleeved light orange shirt with white stripes, cream dress trousers and trainers.
"This is Dalbir's first time in this country," Allen said. "He does speak reasonable English but he has failed to make any contact with the party that travelled from India for this two week cricketing tour. His teachers and friends are growing increasingly concerned as are we. His group was given detailed instructions on what they should do if they become lost but no-one has heard from him at all. We are anxious to hear from anyone who may have seen him or may know of his whereabouts."
