Tour match: Derbyshire v New Zealanders
Wisden's review of the first tour match, Derbyshire vs New Zealand, 2013
At Derby, May 4-6. New Zealanders won by 107 runs. Toss: Derbyshire.
New Zealand's back-up bowlers gave their selectors something to think about: in the absence of
Trent Boult and Tim Southee, who were rested, the bustling left-armer Wagner took eight wickets in
the match, and Bracewell seven. Their batsmen were rather less impressive, although Watling
produced two adhesive knocks, and Brownlie played attractively in the first innings. For Derbyshire,
left-armer Footitt troubled the top order with his pace, and took six wickets in his first match of the
season to boost his chances of a regular place.
Close of play: first day, Derbyshire 24-1 (Godleman 9); second day, New Zealanders 199-5
(Watling 61, Latham 47).
