Tournament favorites Jersey too strong for Israel

Israel slumped to their second straight defeat of the opening day at the ICC Europe Division 1 T20 Championships, losing to host nation and tournament favorites Jersey by eight wickets. The afternoon match followed a remarkably similar pattern to the morning loss to Denmark. Asked to bat first Israel stumbled and stuttered to a mediocre score of 88, which their opponents chased down for the loss of two wickets and with eight overs in hand.

Israel made three changes to their team from the opening game. Bowlers Eliezer Samson and Shifron Waskar, making his senior team debut, replaced David Massil and Raymond Talkar, whilst Nir Dokarkar came in for Yefet Nagavkar. Shailesh Bangerra was promoted up the order to open with Daniel Hyman, but the change in personnel never prevented another early wicket going down, Hyman out without scoring with the score on five. The second wicket partnership of Bangerra and Danny Hotz provided perhaps the brightest period of the game for Israel, with Hotz in aggressive mood, pulling consecutive boundaries over midwicket in the third over. However after he was bowled for 19 soon after, Israel were unable to put together a partnership of note, losing wickets at regular intervals. In reply Jersey were never in any trouble, needing just 12 overs to complete the win.
